Bidhannagar Mela Utsav 2025, the much-awaited fair hosted by the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC), will be held at the Salt Lake Central Park fairground from December 1 to December 21.
It is considered one of Kolkata’s largest and most beautiful winter fairs. This grand fair marks the beginning of the winter festive season in Kolkata and draws thousands of visitors from across the city.
This year, the fair is being held a few weeks earlier than usual to allow the ground to be prepared for the International Kolkata Book Fair scheduled in January 2026.
Every year, the Bidhannagar Mela Utsav celebrates art, culture, and craftsmanship by bringing together local artisans, small-scale entrepreneurs, and traders from different parts of India. This year, the fair will feature a diverse range of stalls offering handicrafts, textiles, home décor items, traditional jewellery, and delicious regional delicacies. Stalls have been reserved for traders from various Indian states as well as from Bangladesh.
Last year, traders from Bangladesh could not participate in the fair because of the unstable political situation. Even though some had paid advances to secure their stalls, the booking agency refunded the payments and advised them not to attend.
This year, however, 14 stalls — numbered A-5 to A-18 in the booking list — have been reserved exclusively for Bangladeshi traders to take part in the fair. Out of the 14 stalls allotted to traders from Bangladesh, 13 will each cover an area of 250 sq ft, while one larger stall will span 500 sq ft. According to civic officials, the Bangladeshi stalls are among the most popular attractions at the fair, as they feature beautiful Dhakai and Jamdani Sarees that draw large crowds every year.
Apart from shopping, the fair offers a complete entertainment experience. Cultural programs, musical performances, food stalls serving traditional Bengali and international cuisines, and amusement rides create a festive atmosphere for families and friends to enjoy.
Over the years, Bidhannagar Mela Utsav has grown into one of Kolkata’s most popular and beautiful winter fairs, symbolising the city’s love for art, tradition, and togetherness.
