This year, Chhath will be observed from 25th October to 28th October 2025, and the approximate time of celebration in Kolkata will be 27th, 5:30pm Sunset and 28th, 6:30am Sunrise.

Kolkata Chhath Puja Preparations 

The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) has concentrated its preparations on enforcing the National Green Tribunal (NGT) ban on Chhath rituals at the city's two large water bodies:

Rabindra Sarobar and Subhas Sarobar Shut Down: Both the lakes shall be totally shut down and barricaded, and security personnel deployed to ensure that no worship takes place, from October 26 morning and continuing till October 28, the prime ritual days.

Alternative Ghats Offered: To facilitate the worshippers, KMDA has formally arranged 39 alternative ghats, of which 24 are permanent ones, at different locations of the city.

Stringent Noise and Firecracker Regulations:

Use of DJ music or more than one loudspeaker is prohibited.

Green firecrackers alone are allowed, and they may only be utilised within a specific time frame between 6 am and 8 am.

Several other preparations have also been taken by the authorities, like cleaning of the ghats along with setting up biotoilets, improvement of lighting facilities, followed by changing rooms, drinking water facilities, etc.
