After the divine dance of Maa Durga during Mahisahur Mardini, the goddess of Swarg is believed to have forgotten all her powers. Soon Parvati appeared in front of Agni, Vayu, Chandra, and Varuna in order to break their ego / Ahonkar & asked them to move a tiny of grass in order to test them. Agni, Vayu, Chandra, and Varuna failed in moving/plucking the tiny grass & in turn, they understood that Devi is the ultimate source of all energies and the powers Agni, Vayu, Chandra, and Varuna withstand within her also. As soon as the Devas realized their misgivings Devi Uma Appeared in front of them riding on a lion underneath an elephant. The elephant is considered to be the Ahankar of the devas which lies below the sharpclaws of the vahan "lion". This is why we see Maa Jagadhratri's miraculous look riding over a lion destroying all the Ahankar and manifesting positivity around.
The first Jagadhatri puja was started by Maharaja Krishnachandra at Krishnanagar, Nadia. Along with Chandannagar and Krishnagar Jagadhatri Puja is also celebrated with great enthusiasm at Rishra, Bhadreswar, Hooghly, and Boinchi.
